Talk:Hard Disk Install Setup Tips
Proposed nsthdinstall Updates
Pete, I really liked your notes on mounting 'hda4' to /var in the hard drive install section - I typically had been mounting to /var/nst, but after thinking about it, I like your approach of mounting the large partition directly at /var better.
I'm thinking that having a "--var DEVICE [--var-format]" option to the nsthdinstall script might be a worthwhile addition. This would give one the option to specify the location of their "var" partition when running "nsthdinstall" and save a reboot (the --var-format option would only be specified if one wanted the "var" partition re-formatted).
In addition, when the "--var DEVICE" option was specified, I would have the "nsthdinstall" script look for the special directory "DEVICE/nst/etc" and copy any files it found their to "/etc" on the new installation. This would allow one to "mirror" the configuration files which they would like copied after a new installation.
